Assembly + Finishing: Spot Welding, Riveting, and Aircraft-Grade Paint Booth Capabilities

Posted by Clare McGarrey on May 5, 2026

In aerospace manufacturing, fabrication is not complete until parts are assembled, joined, and finished to meet operational demands. Cut and formed components must be permanently joined, structurally sound, and protected from corrosion before they are ready for service. For aerospace and defense programs, durability and consistency at this stage are critical.

At InterConnect Wiring, assembly and finishing transform precision-fabricated parts into field-ready components. Through controlled spot welding, aircraft-grade riveting, and in-house paint booth capabilities, InterConnect Wiring delivers finished sheet metal assemblies that meet the expectations of demanding customers such as Lockheed, L3Harris, Hill Air Force Base.

Assembly and Finishing: The Concluding Phase of Fabrication

Aerospace sheet metal parts must meet not only dimensional requirements but also perform optimally. They must withstand vibration, environmental exposure, and long service cycles without failure. Assembly and finishing determine how well components perform once installed on an aircraft or integrated into a system.

InterConnect Wiring approaches assembly and finishing with the same discipline applied to machining and forming. Each joining method and coating process is selected to support structural integrity, longevity, and compliance with aerospace expectations. The result is a finished component ready for installation, not additional processing.

Spot Welding: Clean, Strong, and Repeatable Joining

Spot welding is a critical joining method for many aerospace sheet metal assemblies. It creates strong, clean bonds without adding excess material or fasteners, making it well-suited for weight-sensitive aircraft applications.

At InterConnect Wiring, spot welding is performed by trained technicians following controlled procedures. The process emphasizes:

  1. Consistent weld placement and penetration
  2. Clean joints with minimal distortion
  3. Repeatable strength across production runs
  4. Verification against strength and quality requirements

Spot-welded assemblies are evaluated to ensure joints meet performance expectations before moving forward. This approach supports the reliability required for components installed on platforms such as the F-16, F-22, UH-1, AH-1, and UH-60, where structural consistency is essential.

Riveting: Structural Fastening for Vibration Environments

In aerospace environments, vibration resistance is a constant concern. Riveting provides a proven mechanical fastening solution that maintains joint integrity under dynamic loads.

InterConnect Wiring utilizes rivet presses designed for aircraft-grade assembly, producing secure and uniform fasteners that meet aerospace standards. Riveting at InterConnect Wiring supports:

  1. Long-term structural stability
  2. Resistance to vibration and fatigue
  3. Consistent fastener installation
  4. Repeatable results across assemblies

InterConnect Wiring’s controlled riveting process ensures assemblies remain secure throughout their operational life.

Paint Booth Capabilities: Protection and Performance

Finishing is more than appearance. Aerospace coatings protect components from corrosion, moisture, and environmental exposure while meeting program-specific requirements.

InterConnect Wiring’s in-house paint booth capabilities allow for controlled application and curing of aircraft-grade coatings. The paint booth process at InterConnect Wiring includes:

  1. Surface preparation for proper adhesion
  2. Application of specified aerospace coatings
  3. Controlled curing environments
  4. Inspection for coverage and finish quality

By managing finishing in-house, InterConnect Wiring maintains control over quality, schedule, and consistency. Painted parts leave the facility protected, compliant, and ready for installation, reducing handling and lead time for customers.

Delivering Finished Parts Ready for the Field

Assembly and finishing are where fabrication becomes a complete, install-ready solution. Through spot welding, riveting, and aerospace-grade coating processes, InterConnect Wiring delivers components built for durability, consistency, and long-term performance.

This turn-key capability allows InterConnect Wiring to deliver fully assembled and finished parts that are ready for immediate integration, reducing handoffs, minimizing rework, and supporting predictable production schedules.

For manufacturing decision makers, working with a partner that delivers finished parts reduces risk, simplifies logistics, and supports program timelines.
