WHAT IS AN AMADA BRAKE PRESS AND HOW IS IT USED FOR F-16 MUX PANELS?

Hi. My name is Malich, Training Manager with InterConnect Wiring where Connections Matter. Today we’ll be looking at an Amada brake press and what it exactly does for F-16 mux panels.

WHAT IS AN AMADA BRAKE PRESS AND HOW IS IT USED FOR F-16 MUX PANELS?

This is our Amada brake press. It’s one of our most sophisticated machines at InterConnect Wiring. But before we get too specific, let’s explain what it does. Using these die and punches up here, you’re going to take a piece of sheet metal, placed in between, where a lot of force gets pushed down and then bends the part to the very specific or general requirement of the drawing.

Here I have two different examples of bending pieces of sheet metal for F-16 mux panels. You can see they are quite different, so we have to change our tools and match our punches to the bend requirements that are laid out in our drawings. We’ll demonstrate this for you right now.

As you can see in our bending process, the first step is to line up our back cages, or those gold back bars with the part so that it holds it at the correct distance that needs to be bent. The top piece, also known as a punch, will line up with the bottom piece known as the die, and bend it exactly how the spec or drawing says it needs to be bent.

Every piece of sheet metal needs to have its own programming with specific poundage and force to decide exactly how it should be bent. As you can see, this takes quite a bit of precision. Otherwise you may mess up the entire part.

There we go!  We have a box.

Although this is a box used for a cockpit panel and not a mux panel, you can see just how incredibly important it is for the Amada to make mux panels. They require bends in very different ways to make it work.

Our License

We are the sole licensee of Lockheed Martin for F-16 electrical products. Through this agreement, we have access to Lockheed Martin’s F-16 engineering data, tooling and configuration control information. We also have a Technical Services agreement with Sikorsky for all of their aircraft. This agreement allows us to obtain their engineering data needed to rewire helicopters that Sikorsky manufactures.
