WHAT IS A UAV AND IS IT THE SAME AS A UAS? IS EWIS THE SAME?
So what is a UAV? A UAV is an unmanned aerial vehicle, which means there’s nobody aboard the aircraft. A UAS is an unmanned aircraft system which, although sounds similar, has a few differences. The UAS includes the ground piloting station, the actual drone itself, and any communication stations setup. So every UAV being a part of a UAS is only a fraction of the whole system.
Think of a camera crew. The camera is a UAV, but the camera (plus the photographer, the lighting, and the sound crew) is the UAS. Now, how does the EWIS get involved?
EWIS stands for Electrical Wiring Interconnection System. Think of all the electrical wiring harnesses and connections in an aircraft. This would be the EWIS. For a visualization of this, think of the human nervous system (as an example) where all the nerves and connections relay signals and data throughout the body. This would be the equivalent to an EWIS system in an aircraft. It also goes to show just how important the EWIS system is.
