Are All Wiring Harnesses Made Using the Same Military Specification?
When looking at wiring harnesses, it’s important to determine what manufacturing spec that they’re made in accordance with. This tells us the proper details on how to terminate, braid, or do any other special processes that are required.
Visually looking at a harness, you can easily tell some of them are built differently and usually those manufacturing specifications are determined by the customer requirements or typically located on your HAD or your source documents.
Another place to determine what specifications are used to make a harness are determined in our paperless traveler. This will have all the information or any shop aid required that we pulled out of our specs. Assemblers will use these to determine what they need to know to make a wiring harness or not.
So again, to recap, not all harnesses are made using the same manufacturing specification even though every harness is made to a manufacturing specification. You will know this, again, by customer data, contracts, or source documentation.
