“Hello. My name is Steve Floyd, Shop Foreman at InterConnect Wiring. Today we’re going to be talking about how to laser mark wire on an F-16 fighter jet wiring harness.
Wiring Harnesses – Aircraft Rewiring – Cockpit Panels – Console Wiring
The first step in our process is to add the spool of wire that we’re going to be using into what’s called a dereeler. The wire in the dereeler then gets fed through a tiny hole on the outside of the C-100 Capris laser wire marking machine that we use here at InterConnect.
There’s a small clamp that grabs on the wire and pulls it through. The laser then starts to wire-mark the wire. This is controlled by our planning department. They determine what the wire-marking is based on the engineering that’s given to us by our customers like Lockheed Martin and Boeing.
The intervals at which the wire is marked are based on the specifications determined by our customers. Once the laser wire marking is complete, the wire then gets pulled out from the laser wire marking area and cut to a specific length. This is determined by what’s called our routing list.
