Have you ever wondered what a Quality Engineer at an aerospace and defense company does? I did just before we hired one and now, I’m sure glad we did. Recently we had a recurring issue with a part from one of our suppliers. When this happened, we needed Sherlock Holmes to research the problem, document how many times this deficiency occurred, and make a recommendation to our customer regarding ways to improve the quality of this part. Sherlock Homes = Quality Engineer. He gets down and dirty when it comes to figuring out how to solve “the case”. Enter Mr. Shad Dooley, InterConnect Wiring’s Quality Engineer. Shad is the focus of this month’s Falcon Focus.

What is your role at InterConnect?
I’m the Quality Engineer. My job is to work with the quality system. Everything from internal audits, processes, writing or updating manuals, making sure that our system meets the required standards. I work with product-related issues and interact with customers. I also handle some of the administrative parts of quality and adhere to AS9100.

How does your role CONNECT you to customers?

In Quality we are responsible for meeting all of the customers’ requirements. This includes connections that are product-related and items that are in the contract, like on time delivery as well as meeting customer satisfaction. These all fall under the quality system so we get to see all of it, watch it, and be a part of how we meet those requirements at InterConnect.

How does your role CONNECT you with co-workers?

We get to work with our fellow employees whether we are addressing any quality-related issues or meeting requirements. The quality system applies to all departments. This includes everyone at InterConnect, including maintenance and other departments. We get to work with them to see how we are meeting their requirements, help them to meet the requirements they need, and make sure we are meeting our quality system.

Why are you proud to work at InterConnect?
I’m proud of our commitment to quality and meeting all the customer requirements like on time delivery. I am especially proud of our communication that we internally have and with our customers.

What is your favorite thing about your job here at InterConnect?
My favorite thing about working in quality is the people. The people in our quality group, and also working with all our employees. At InterConnect there is a commitment about doing things the right way and you get to see that people do take pride in their job and the work they do and how proud they are of it.

How do you live out CONNECTIONS MATTER?

I try to be respectful of everyone and listen to their input. I get their thoughts and ideas on how we can meet our quality system. I know that the best people to know how to do what we are trying to do with the requirements are the ones who are doing it day in and day out – hands on.

Shad holds a Bachelor’s degree in communications from Texas A&M University. He is an active member of the Knights of Columbus, an organization of Catholic men, founded on the principles of charity, unity, and fraternity. The Knights of Columbus was established in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, who is being considered for sainthood. Besides devoting his time as a Knight, Shad is an avid hunter and enjoys spending time with his family.
